Kids, Drugs, Parents and Death.

As many know Appalachia had a kid who well as the rumor is OD'ed while at a friends house.

If you are taking or snorting pills or doing any kind of illegal drugs stop and get some help. If your friends are. Talk to them and if they don't listen, then don't fall into their habit.

If you know someone who is selling drugs. Even if it's your friends or your parents report them. You could save your life or someone elses.

A 15 or 16 yr old should not lose their life over drugs.

If your thinking about it. Think about your future. Is getting high worth dying over?

Someone has to be mature about all this. If the parents can't maybe some of you kids can.
And if your a parent. Take some time and find out what your kids are into.

It's becoming more and more evident we have a huge drug problem locally.
It's not just pot but pills and other injectable drugs.
From snorting to injecting and age limit there is none. From teenagers to the elderly.
One thing i did hear one parent say. Well i'd rather them do it at home. How stupid. Why should you let your kids do it anyway. At home or away. Sooner or later it just gets worse.
Were losing control of this battle. Many don't see it. But when kids steal drugs from their parents, to do illegally or to sell, to buy things they want.
They know the demand is out there.
Problem i see you have parents to involved in everything but their kids lives. And parents afraid to be parents. They will hate me. Better them be alive to hate you. Than to go to the cemetary to make a visit.
And many older adults who think getting high and away from reality is somehow gonna fix things?
Time our local leaders realize we got a problem. In our schools, on our streets, in our businesses. All over. A problem that isn't going away any time soon.
What is the answer. I don't know. But a start would be parents being parents, taking our schools back, from the drug pushers and drug pusher kids in our schools. And kids being shown the reality of what can happen.
Taken to a funeral or two, of those who thought getting high was cool, well till they died from it. Taken to the local prisons to see how good it can get.
I don't know honestly im just po'ed some about how things are today.
We lost control a long time ago. And now it's showing. Worst thing is even in the older adult generation the 50-60 some year generation.
I think this is the third OD, in a week or so, and one a suicide, over an OD where the person give the drugs to the person who OD'ed.
We got some problems. And yeah it does affect us all. Any one got any answers? This will escalate other crimes as the demand for pills and other drugs go up. Any one got any answers to where we start. Because evidently were not doing to good on the just say no slogan.

I am aware that there is a problem locally. I understand that there will be mandatory drug testing. Unfortunately it starts next year. Anyone that can verify this info I would appreciate it. Hopefully it may save some lives. The boy you are referncing played football for Appy ,Also played p-nut for me we are[lpdftbl&myself] know the family very well. The family has had some tragedys more then enoough for 3 familys let alone 1. Prayers & thoughts for the family. Can someone fill me in on the arrangements. Some of these parents need to wake up and find out what their kids are doing. IF, not....this will probably happen again. Its a shame something like this happens. Lee County Sheriffs office arrested 111 drug dealers last week. Its time Wise Co did the same. How many more deaths does it take to get some action?

you must not have been paying attention, wise county has done the same the past few months, and their investigations are ongoing.

the ultimate responsibility for these kids however is their parents. one major problem though is that a lot of the parents are doing the same thing.

Pardon me, but YOU must not be paying attention. We still have kids dropping dead because of prescription drugs. That small round up Wise Co had didn't make a dent in it. Lets get serious and put a stop to it. These small timers don't even serve time! They are back on the street the next day most of the time. If you know someone dealing....its time to rat them out...It could save a kids life!

It's just a big game to most. Until it's someone's life.

And from what i gather, a kid, lost his life by buying stolen prescription drugs, from another kid, selling those stolen prescription drugs to buy himself a game.

We got some serious problems folks. In our schools, our homes and on our streets. Even in our businesses and work places. As far as prescriptions drugs and just drug use and abuse.

I will have to agree with six in some ways. Many of the parents are doing as much as the kids.

Right now you'd probably have to fix as many parents, before you could fix the kids.

Something needs to be done. When school age kids are dropping over, we have a problem.

Thing is how do we fix it.

I remember when the biggest concern use to be worrying about a kid taking a drink.
Now it's if their shooting up or snorting up. We got some problems. Kids and adults.

I agree with everything that all of you have said. But, there is one question that continually haunts me every day. Why do kids want to get high? I understood why I took my first drink and all the drinks after that. Socially, it was an acceptable practice. It was/is still an unhealthy practice with some pretty serious consequences. But, what part of the teenage brain says, "Hey, let's sniff that glue until we pass out!" or "Hey, let's spray that can of Lysol in a cup until there's just straight alcohol left." or "Hey, let's swing this cough medicine around so that the actual drug rises to the top and we can get the straight stuff." I had a group of young teenagers (13 yrs maybe) play the "choking game" right in front of me a couple of weeks ago. The "leader" was saying how cool it was and that there's no harm to it. I had to politely request they refrain from that activity and as briefly and clearly as possible explain that it's far from harmless.

It's complete ignorance. They'll believe anything that's told to them, especially if it's someone they look up to.
I'm sure these kids probably left the building to play the game elsewhere. I'm an adult - what do I know. Why should they listen to me - it's much cooler to listen to your friends.

Any parent that thinks "not my kid" is ignorant.
EVERY kid is into some behavior that mom & dad don't want them to do.
